1 NORTHBOUND / DOYLESTOWN PA
We depart Virginia this morning traveling to our first stop at the Capital Building of Pennsylvania – in Harrisburg PA. After a lunch stop, we will head to see Fonthill Castle. Fonthill Castle is an eclectic mix of Medieval, Gothic, and Byzantine architectural styles, and is significant as an early example of poured reinforced concrete. We will have dinner and stay the night in the Doylestown PA area.
2 BANNERMAN CASTLE
Before we leave Doylestown, we will visit the Moravian Pottery and Tile facility. After a quick lunch we head out to see Bannerman Castle. The Hudson River acts as a Moat around this castle so we will travel by ferry boat to reach her. Bannerman’s castle remnants are spread out on the island, including a small hike to the peak of the island to see its entirety. We head to Waterbury Connecticut area to spend the night.
3 HARTFORD STATE CAPITOL / PROVIDENCE
This morning we will enjoy a tour of the Connecticut State Capitol Building. We will treat you to lunch on our way to Winnekenni Castle. Construction of this beautiful castle began in 1873 and was completed two years later in 1875. The word Winnekenni, comes from an Algonquin Indian word for “Very Beautiful!” Next up we will visit Castle Hill on the Crane Estate – with more than 2,100 acres this property became The Crane Estate in 1910, many a various movies have been filmed on this massive property and gorgeous estate. We will be spending the night near Haverhill MA.
4 BOSTON / HAMMOND CASTLE
First thing this morning we head to Gloucester MA, to see the famous Hammond Castle – With its secret passageways and hidden doors, this castle situated on the banks of the Atlantic Ocean is one to be seen! Next up – we are on to Boston for a guided City Tour to take in all the famous landmarks, Tour of Castle Island and Ft. Independence, located in the shipping channel of the Boston Harbor. We also visit the Massachusetts State Capital Building. Dinner and nightly stay around Braintree MA.
5 NEWPORT RI / GILLETTE CASTLE
We depart the hotel this morning bound for the Rhode Island Capitol house where we will enjoy a tour. Gillette Castle is next on the agenda – Situated beside the Connecticut River, this stone medieval fortress must be seen to be believed. We will spend the night around Milford CT.
6 TARRYTOWN NY / SLEEPY HOLLOW
Our first stop of the day is going to be Sleepy Hollow. We will visit and explore the Old Cemetery, Old Church and Philipsburg Manor. We will spend the entire day in Sleepy Hollow touring and looking for the Headless Horseman. We will stay the next two nights in Tarrytown NY.
7 TARRYTOWN NY
Today we visit the beautiful Lyndhurst Castle – From its majestic vestibules and entrance hall to the second floor impressive Tiffany and La Farge Stained Glass Windows, this castle is sure to impress. We will also see the famous author’s Washington Irving Sunnyside Cottage.
8 BERKLEY SPRINGS WV
We leave New York and head to Berkley Springs West Virginia. We see Berkley Springs Castle, take a foot bath in the Mineral Springs and find out all the history of where George Washington took his baths at Berkley Springs. You will have some free time to shop before Dinner and Hotel check in for the night. We will spend the night in the Berkley Springs area.
9 HOMEWARD BOUND
We depart our hotel this morning traveling back through West Virginia and into Virginia thinking back to the days of old, the stone castles, our pristine Capitols and our beautiful countryside.
