1 BEREA / BOONE TAVERN / BLUEGRASS
Today we travel to Berea, KY to the stately and historic Boone Tavern Hotel where we will spend the next three nights. Situated where the Bluegrass meets the rolling hills of Appalachia it is operated by the students of Berea College who study the arts and crafts of the region. A Four Course Dinner is included tonight in the Dining Room. The Berea Restaurant’s cuisine celebrates quintessential Kentucky and Boone Tavern tradition. After dinner, you will be entertained with a private performance by the Berea College Bluegrass Ensemble.
2 BIG SOUTH FORK SCENIC RAIL / RENFO VALLEY MUSIC SHOW
This morning we take a Train Ride aboard the historic Big South Fork Scenic Railway. Witness spectacular scenic vistas, lush vegetation, eastern hardwood forests, and mountain streams as you descend into the gorge before stopping at Barthell Coal Camp. During the trip down, enjoy a Coal Miners Lunch. Upon arriving in Barthell we enjoy a guided town tour and visit the McCreary County Museum now housed in what was previously Stearns Coal & Lumber Company Corporate Headquarters. After our tour we return to the hotel to rest and relax before heading to The Limestone Grill near Renfro Valley for dinner. After dinner we head into Renfro Valley for the Renfro Valley Music Show
3 BEREA / WORLD CHICKEN FESTIVAL
We start today with a Tour of Historic Berea, including Berea College, and the city’s cultural districts, a stop at the Log House Craft Galley, and a tour of the Old Town Artisans’ Village. Then we head into London, KY for the World Chicken Festival, this international celebration is tribute to Colonel Harland Sanders founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken. While here we can enjoy the afternoon and lunch on your own. This evening we return to Boone Tavern to enjoy another four course dinner of Southern favorites.
4 HOMEWARD BOUND
Today we head back home with many good memories of Kentucky, The Chicken Festival and the history of the beautiful town of Berea.
